ABIC 2026 Summer Internship Opening Ceremony: Welcoming Next-Gen Biomedical Innovators

The InnoHK Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Center (ABIC) officially launched its 2026 Summer Internship Program on 23 July, welcoming a new cohort of approximately 50 high-caliber students from leading universities worldwide, including Stanford, Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College London, HKU, CUHK, and HKUST, etc., to engage in immersive training in biomedical innovation and translational research.

The Opening Ceremony was officiated by Professor Anderson Shum, Founding Centre Director and Co-Director of ABIC. The event was honored by distinguished guests, including Ms. Winnie Chan, Assistant Commissioner for Innovation and Technology (ITC), alongside delegation representatives from HKSTP, HKU Innovation Holdings and Versitech. Their steadfast support reflects a mutual commitment to cultivating specialized talent and reinforcing Hong Kong, China's standing as an international hub for biomedical excellence. ABIC extends its sincere gratitude to these partners for driving the continuous success of the internship initiative since its launch in 2024.

A key highlight of the proceedings was the Intern Sharing Session, during which participants articulated their anticipations regarding experiential research, clinical-translational mentorship, personal growth and professional development at ABIC, offering valuable insights to the incoming cohort. Attendees were also presented with a retrospective video showcasing milestones from the 2024-2026 ABIC Internship cycles, celebrating the Centre’s achievements in nurturing future biomedical innovators.

Throughout the coming weeks, interns will participate in cutting-edge laboratory research, cross-disciplinary collaborations, entrepreneurship activities, and experiential learning modules. This curriculum includes a Greater Bay Area study tour designed to facilitate engagement with leading biomedical research institutes and life-science innovation ecosystems. ABIC anticipates the fresh perspectives these interns will contribute to the future of healthcare technology and wishes the 2026 cohort an impactful, rewarding, and unforgettable summer.
